The guys at Shulman's Women's Health Associates seem to be getting along with bro-tastic new OB-GYN Peter Prentice in "The Mindy Project." That's going to change soon, according to Ed Weeks, who plays Dr. Jeremy Reed.
Reed and Prentice (Adam Pally) are "going butt heads to some degree," the British actor said when he visited RedEye earlier this month.
In "Sk8er Man," airing at 8:30 p.m. CT Nov. 5 on Fox, we'll meet Jeremy's father (Alan Dale), who has a distant and mostly unpleasant relationship with his son, who has been stress eating this season after taking over the business end of the practice from Dr. Mindy Lahiri (Mindy Kaling).
"His dad gives him a lot of [crap] about being fat," Weeks said. "Actually he much prefers Adam Pally's character."
Weeks was excited to have Dale, a veteran British actor who has been seen in everything from "Lost" to "Ugly Betty," playing his TV father.
"He was perfect because he has that kind of sort of very piercing, stern look," he said, "but he's still sort of kind and sweet."
Dale is just one of the many great guest stars the show has landed. "Justified" star Timothy Olyphant appears in the "Sk8er Man" episode as the wild and crazy skateboarder named Graham whom Mindy dates just to prove to Danny (Chris Messina) that she's not too picky.
As for Pally, Weeks was happy to see the former "Happy Endings" star sign on as a full-time cast member. Like writer, co-star and Chicago native Ike Barinholtz, Pally is a great improviser, he said.
"I think he brings like a very kind of ladish, manic, cheeky energy to the show," Weeks said. "It's a joy to see his brain work very quickly, which it does."
In the video above, Weeks does his can't-be-missed impersonations of Messina and Kaling and in the video below, he uses his British accent to charm the top off an innocent bystander. Funny, funny stuff. Enjoy.
