The TARDIS and "Doctor Who" are landing back on BBC America in little over a week, the network announced Wednesday morning.
In the Season 7 premiere, titled "Asylum of the Daleks" and airing at 8 p.m. Sept. 1, the Doctor (Matt Smith) is kidnapped by his oldest foe and taken to a place even the Daleks are too terrified to enter—the Asylum, a prison for insane Daleks.
The episode will bring back Daleks from all the "Doctor Who" eras—that's 50 years of Daleks—a treat head writer and executive producer Steven Moffat was thrilled to give fans and himself.
"We've been off the air for longer than usual, so it was an easy decision to come back with 'Doctor Who' at its most iconic and that means Daleks. Lots and lots of scary Daleks," he said in a release. "There have been many monsters to face the Doctor over the years, but only one that can sum up the whole series just by being there.
"Also, it's my first go at writing for them. I love the Daleks, and I've held off 'til now. But I had what I thought was a good idea, and couldn't resist any longer."
Daleks aren't the only foes the Doctor, Amy Pond (Karen Gillan) and Rory Williams (Arthur Darvill) battle in these five Fall episodes. They'll struggle on a spaceship full of dinosaurs, duel with a cyborg gunslinger and face off against the Weeping Angels.
Sadly, this is also the beginning of the end for Amy and Rory, who say goodbye in the fifth episode, which was filmed on location in New York City. But first, in "Asylum of the Daleks," their relationship is falling apart—and the Doctor must not only deal with the Daleks, but save the Ponds' marriage as well.
"Every story has a beginning, a middle, and an end," say Mark Sheppard in the narration for the new trailer. "But not always in that order."
I love it. Can't wait for the new season. How about you?
