David Tennant has regenerated from a time- and space-traveling Doctor into a robot? That's right. Tennant, who played the 10th Doctor Who, guest stars in the next three episodes of "Star Wars: The Clone Wars."
Don't worry, though, he hasn't become a Cyberman. Tennant voices the character Huyang, an ancient droid who helps young Jedi build their first lightsabers. He first appears in "A Test of Strength," airing at 8:30 a.m. CT Nov. 10 on Cartoon Network. Tennant and Huyang stick around for the following two episodes, "Bound for Rescue" and "A Necessary Strength."
"When I heard the Doctor himself, David Tennant, was a fan of 'Star Wars' I knew I had to find a way to get in contact with him to see if he would perform on 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars,'" supervising director Dave Filoni said in a press release. "The result was Huyang ... I thought David was perfect for the part and he did not disappoint. He delivered a performance which impressed even the Master himself, George Lucas."
A sub plot in the episode involves the bandit Hondo, who wants to intercept a ship of Jedi younglings in order to take their time crystals, which are used to power lightsabers. Any "Doctor Who" will recognize the happy coincidence of having Tennant--who played the Time Lord--in the episode.
Tennant stars in the upcoming BBC America series "Spies of Warsaw," which begins in early 2013. He'll definitely look more like himself in that series.
