Daryl Dixon voted RedEye's Best TV Character 2011

There's just no stopping a man with a crossbow and zombie-ear necklace: Daryl Dixon of "The Walking Dead" is RedEye's Best TV Character of 2011.

After 87,821 votes in the championship round, Daryl took the prize with 50 percent of the vote, defeating Abed Nadir of "Community," who earned 49 percent of the votes. The Twiigs service polls never add up to 100 percent for some reason, so Abed fans can take comfort in knowing that it was pretty much a dead heat.

But we don't deal in ties at RedEye, so Daryl can claim yet another zombie ear. (Remember in last year's Halloween episode, Abed was turned into a zombie.)

"Yeah, I won! Woo!" Norman Reedus, who plays Daryl, said during a phone interview Wednesday. That was about 50 minutes before the tournament ended, but he added when I told him it wasn't quite over. "Well hey, I'm happy to be in the final."

The championship round was Daryl's toughest after pretty much destroying his opponents in other rounds, including Lydia Adams from "SouthLAnd," Tyrion Lannister from "Games of Thrones," Walter Bishop from "Fringe" and Rory Williams from "Doctor Who."

In the comedy division, Abed, played by Chicago native Danny Pudi, took out Virginia Chance of "Raising Hope," Liz Lemon of "30 Rock," Barney Stinson of "How I Met Your Mother" and Charlie Kelly of "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia."

Saying he'd love to see Abed and Daryl team up to fight zombies, Pudi was excited to be in the final as well.

"Abed would be very thrilled that he was competing against a character from 'The Walking Dead,' although I have a feeling he wouldn't do quite as well in a post-apocalyptic zombie world as Daryl Dixon would."

Daryl joins past winners Sir Guy of Gisbourne from "Robin Hood," Starbuck from "Battlestar Galactica" and Michael Westen from "Burn Notice." Congrats.

I'll have more from both actors later today.
