Sneak peeks for CW's new Fall 2012 TV series

The CW on Thursday unveiled a Fall 2012-13 schedule that, while still offering the type of young-skewing shows its known for, also signals the network might be growing up a bit. "Emily Owens, M.D." and "Beauty and the Beast" fit the CW mold, with the former being a light-hearted dramedy that will pair well with "Hart of Dixie" on Tuesdays, and the latter offering the romance with a twist that CW loves. (The midseason series "The Carrie Diaries" screams "90210" and "Gossip Girl.") More interesting are the network's take on "Arrow," which on the surface sounds like a replacement for the super hero drama "Smallville" that aired on CW for 10 seasons. But it's being promoted as a darker, more brooding hero series akin to Chistopher Nolan's "Batman" film trilogy. We'll see if it goes that dark, but still, it's bold thinking for The CW. "Cult" represents a promising attempt for The CW to try something completely different, if it lives up to what we've been told about it. That will debut midseason.
