What it's about: Based on the DC Comics hero who we last saw in "Smallville" (and played by Justin Hartley, now starring in "Emily Owens, M.D.," "Arrow" tells the tale of billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, who after being presumed dead for five years returns to Starling City a changed man who has heroic deeds planned. It has an all-star production team, including executive producers Greg Berlanti ("Green Lantern," "Brothers & Sisters"), Marc Guggenheim ("FlashForward," "Eli Stone"), Andrew Kreisberg ("Warehouse 13," "The Vampire Diaries") and David Nutter ("Smallville," "Supernatural," "Game of Thrones").
How long before I bail? Those producers promise a darker hero story than "Smallville," which can only be a plus. And with Amell in the lead role--check him out in the previews--I'm in for at least 10 episodes and probably more. I see a Shirtless Man of the Week for the fall.
1st Look at Stephen Amell as "Arrow" (CW /May 19, 2012)
The CW announced its Fall 2012-13 TV schedule Thursday, overhauling its line-up by moving all its surviving shows, except the hit "The Vampire Diaries," to new nights or times.
After a year in which the network watched its ratings dip 15 percent from the previous year, CW President Mark Pedowitz presented five new dramas, three of which will debut in the fall. The network also said it will wait to premiere its new season until some time in October to avoid the usual September onslaught of fall TV premieres.
"Diaries" will remain at 7 p.m. Thursdays, followed by the new drama "Beauty and the Beast" starring "Smallville" alum Kristin Kreuk."America's Next Top Model" moves to 7 p.m. Fridays, paired with"Nikita," which moves into the 8 p.m. slot.
You can check out the full altered schedule below, which includes other new series "Arrow"and "Emily Owens, M.D." (formerly "First Cut"). "Cult"and "The Carrie Diaries" will premiere at midseason. "The Carrie Diaries" replaces "Gossip Girl,"which has been given an abbreviated final season.
