Halsted Street mainstay Hydrate will close Jan. 5 to make way for "extensive" renovations, said club owner Mark Liberson.

"Everything's being redone," Liberson said, citing a new exterior, front bar area, bathrooms, windows and decorative fixtures. "We’re bringing [Hydrate] forward into the new decade, using more upscale materials. We want to give people a destination that reflects how the community has been evolving and create a more upscale presence."

Liberson, who also owns nearby bars Elixir and Replay, said he hopes to reopen "as quickly as possible."

The facelift entails moving Hydrate's front bar to another section of the room, installing new lighting including crystal chandeliers from the former Ambassador West Hotel, and making changes to outdoor signs.

As for the club's signature awning mist, Liberson is unsure whether that will remain after the renovation, but said his intention is to retain it.

Those who want to spend one final night in the original Hydrate can do so at two send-off parties taking place on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 3 and 4.
