2013 bar and restaurant preview
That cute cat calendar you picked up in the office holiday grab bag? It's time to put it to use. We've only reached the second week of 2013, but there already are months of restaurant, bar and club openings to keep on your radar. Of course, the city's going to greet a slew of fresh burger, beer and pizza spots this year, but there's also a Top Chef-helmed Italian tavern, a playful tiki bar and a fine-dining Chinese restaurant to anticipate. From long-awaited hots pots to small neighborhood newcomers, meet the dining and drinking arrivals that are going to keep Chicago buzzing this year. --Lisa Arnett and Kate Bernot

Burgers
Denver-based burger chain Smashburger hopes to infuse some local flavor into its first Chicago location opening this spring in Lincoln Park (2031 N. Clybourn Ave.) with Goose Island beer to pair with burgers such as the Windy City topped with spicy mustard, fried onions and cheddar on a pretzel bun. Further north, cult-favorite fast-food spot Sonic is planning its first city location at Kenmore and Wilson in Uptown and could be serving Super Sonic double cheeseburgers as early as late summer. And, of course, expect burgermania to ensue when Avondale legend Kuma's Corner opens spinoff Kuma's Too in the space that recently housed fellow burger shop The Counter (666 W. Diversey Pkwy). |
