Hopping on two trends at once, Dion Antic opens The Haute & the Dog (1252 N. Damen Ave., hauteanddog.com), a carryout shop featuring gourmet hot dogs and Southern-style sides, at 11 a.m. today.
The shop, on the site of Antic's former Bagel on Damen concept, features Oscherwitz beef franks and products from local sausage makers. Items include a green chili mac-and-cheese dog, barbecue pork dog and plenty more. Dogs are priced from $3-$5.
Fries are available, reluctantly, but Antic intends to push such Southern-inflected sides as succotash and baked beans with smoked sausage.
The barnwood-wrapped interior features taxidermy and vintage '60s furniture, and like all Antic concepts, will keep late hours, open until 10 p.m. most nights and midnight Friday and Saturday.
Cash only, though there's an ATM on the premises.
