“Chicago PD” is briefly borrowing Ice-T and Kelli Giddish from “Law & Order: SVU” this week for a crossover episode and the plan is for "PD" to return the favor.
Ice-T posted a photo of himself and Giddish – who play detectives Fin Tutuola and Amanda Rollins on “SVU,” respectively – on the “PD” set Monday with their co-stars. “PD” and “SVU” are both produced by Dick Wolf.
According to TV Guide's interview with “PD” executive producer Matt Olmstead’s last month, Tutuola and Rollins are in Chicago for “a case that involves a serial rapist/killer, who the cops believe started his spree in New York and moved on to Chicago. Finn and Rollins are brought in by Detective Voight (Jason Beghe) who heads the (Intelligence) Unit. They work very well with their Chicago counterparts.”
A “PD” spokeswoman said Ice-T and Giddish are only in town for a two-day shoot. They began Monday and will fly out Tuesday after they're done filming.
“PD,” which premieres Jan. 8 on NBC, is a spin-off of “Chicago Fire,” also produced by Wolf. Ice-T has appeared on several of Wolf's shows, including the original “Law & Order” and “New York Undercover.” That’s why the rapper-turned-actor told me he was keeping an eye on “Fire” during an interview last year.
“I met with the producer of ‘Chicago Fire’ — we went out to dinner,” Ice-T said. “I leaned over like this and said, ‘If anything happens to ‘SVU,’ I’m a fire captain.’ Hey, man, I’m like a monkey. You don’t let go of one branch until you get a hold of the other.”
