"Ladies and gentlemen, Grahamwich has left the building."
And with that statement, chef Graham Elliot announced the closing of his imaginative sandwich shop, which quietly closed its doors on Aug. 5.
"We played our last set this past weekend at Lollapalooza," said Elliot, who was selling his popular lobster corn dogs there last weekend. "We'd like to give a huge shout-out to all our fans for their loyalty and support, and look forward to getting the band back together sometime in the future."
Grahamwich (615 N. State St.) opened in December 2010 as a one-of-a-kind sandwich shop. Elliot concocted such novelties as twice-cooked turkey with stewed cranberries, candied yams and sage mayo (essentially a Thanksgiving dinner in a bun); a pastrami Reuben with shaved, pickled rutabaga; and a grilled-cheese sandwich that included cheese curds and tomato marmalade.
Elliot still owns the fine-dining restaurant Graham Elliot (217 W. Huron St.) and the rock 'n' roll-themed Graham Elliot Bistro (841 W. Randolph St.), and is the culinary director for the annual Lollapalooza music festival.
