The City Lit Theater Company, a long-established Chicago theater company that has been most recently performing in the Edgewater Presbyterian Church, is eyeing a move to Evanston.
City Lit wants to take over a storefront space at 727-729 W. Howard St., just east of Ridge Avenue.
Evanston City Council is to vote Monday night on whether to begin formal negotiations with the non-profit company, which specializes in literary adaptations.
The City of Evanston owns the property, located in an area the city wants to develop as an arts district, and there has much local discussion about turning the space into a small theater. Previously, Polarity Ensemble Theatre was interested in the space. According to artistic director Terry McCabe, City Lit wants to first lease and eventually purchase the building as its "permanent home," assuming it is renovated by the city.
