The Chicago Children's Theatre will reprise its production of the Broadway musical "A Year with Frog and Toad" as part of a 2013-14 season made up of just one major new production.
That show, produced in concert with the Broadway producer Debbie Bisno, will be a big one: the world premiere of a new rhythm and blues musical called "Mr. Chickee's Funny Money."
Based on the book by Christopher Paul Curtis, the new show features music and lyrics by the Motown composer Lamont Dozier and his son, Paris. The new show, which has commercial aspirations, will have its world premiere at the Ruth Page Theatre, 1016 N. Dearborn St., on Jan. 24.
"Frog and Toad," directed again by Henry Godinez, will open there on Oct. 11. In April 2014, the Mermaid Theatre of Nova Scotia will return with its blacklight production of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar and Other Eric Carle Favorites."
