Congratulations to Joan Allen, Viola Davis and Helen Hunt, who will all attend the Chicago International Film Festival (Oct. 11-25) to accept a Silver Hugo award for "significant achievements and contributions to the arts," the fest announced this morning.
Davis is certainly the most active of the three right now, next appearing in "Won't Back Down," opening Sept. 28. She'll be on hand for a red carpet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 at the AMC River East, followed by the award ceremony when Davis receives the CIFF's Career Achievement Award as part of the fest's Black Perspectives program. Somehow Davis ("The Help") lost in the Best Actress category last year to Meryl Streep ("The Iron Lady"), but it won't be her last chance to win.
Hunt may have an Oscar nomination coming her way for "The Sessions," opening next month. First she'll attend the film's Oct. 20 screening at AMC River East, participating in a red carpet before the movie and a Q&A afterward. Get those "Mad About You" questions ready!
Illinois native Joan Allen ("Pleasantville," "Nixon," "The Crucible"), a Steppenwolf ensemble member, will discuss her career Oct. 14 following a red carpet event at 6 p.m. at AMC River East. The night is part of the fest's "REELWOMEN" program, discussing women's contributions to film. Don't hold your breath for an invitation, Katherine Heigl.
