It’s probably not a coincidence that everyone involved with the Under the Influence of Music Tour 2014, arriving in Tinley Park on Aug. 5 and at Wisconsin’s Alpine Valley Music Theatre on Aug. 9, has expressed strong affection for pot, and that tickets for the shows go on sale at 4:20 p.m. Friday. I’m not saying this concert will be heavy on marijuana use, just that you might be as far away as Lake Geneva and still able to catch a contact high. Maybe pack some chips?
Anyway, the tour, featuring Wiz Khalifa, Tyga, Ty Dolla $ign, Rich Homie Quan, Sage the Gemini, Mack Wilds, IAMSU and DJ Drama, offers further proof that the California rap scene is having a moment this year. Everyone on the bill comes from or lives in the Golden State, except for Quan (the Atlanta newcomer whose 2013 hit “Type Of Way” earned him unofficial mascot status at Michigan State last season when the football team used it as a rallying cry), Drama (also based in Atlanta) and token New York act Wilds (the stage name of Tristan Wilds, whom most folks will recognize as Michael Lee from “The Wire”). Ty Dolla $ign in particular is having a breakout year; his “Paranoid” is a funky track you should seek out immediately.
On sale 4:20 p.m. Friday: Under the Influence of Music Tour 2014 featuring Wiz Khalifa, Tyga, Ty Dolla $ign, Rich Homie Quan, Sage the Gemini, Mack Wilds, IAMSU, DJ Drama, Tuesday, Aug. 5 ($27.50-$72.75, all ages) at First Midwest Bank Amphitheatre, Saturday, Aug. 9 ($62.75, all ages) at Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy, Wis.

Tyga - "Rack City"
Ty Dolla $ign - "Paranoid"
Rich Homie Quan - "Type Of Way"
Sage The Gemini - "Gas Pedal"
IAMSU! - "100 Grand Remix" (feat. Juvenile, Kool John and Problem)
