The world has long been clamoring for a proper collaboration of Chicagoans Kanye West and R. Kelly, and thankfully the leadoff track from the newly leaked G.O.O.D. Music mixtape "Cruel Summer" delivers just that.
"To The World" evokes images of beauty like vast skies, sunsets and sounds like it could be from an anti-bullying PSA. Until the words hit. There's a soaring chorus from R. Kelly backed by majestic strings and keys, all while Kelz kindly reminds everyone "Deuces minus one/ Middle finger to the sky tonight." It's every bit as soft as "Lift Off" from last year's "Watch the Throne," but R. is a markedly better fit here than B was.
Kanye, meanwhile, after receiving public comments from both of the last two U.S. presidents, is covering all his bases here, calling out Mitt Romney because "Mitt Romney don't pay no tax." He refuses to be denied in case Mitt wins. He also closes with "R. Kelly and the god of rap / [bleepin]' on you, holy crap," which is unfortunate proximity for R.'s name and bodily waste. Though he may be used to it by now.
