Sound: “We just realized we’re a rock band. That’s really all there is to it. I think we used to hide behind things we weren’t comfortable with doing--synths, pianos, stuff like that.” What to expect, besides every song from the recent “Garage Hymns” and some old favorites: “I’ve never been more excited about what we’ve been doing. I don’t know how to put this without sounding like it’s a sporting event but when we step off the stage it’s like the world is spinning. It’s a very, very high energy show and it’s really a shot from our gut, and you have to be in to that. If you’re not into high energy rock n roll there’s a lot of bands that aren’t doing that at Lolla that you can go see that are really great.” Past Lolla experience: “I’ve been to Lolla a few times. Every time someone mentions Lollapalooza, I think back to my friend has a boat, I think 2008 when Radiohead played, I couldn’t make it in and we were out there and I don’t know if it’s Monroe Harbor or something like that and we were hanging out on a boat and it’s just amazing to hear Radiohead. You can see the lights and it’s like echoing over the water. It was like a phenomenal experience. It almost felt like it was surreal, hearing Thom Yorke’s voice between buildings. That was a really cool experience. Then I have one more. … I remember 30 minutes after [Daft Punk] stopped [in 2007] playing people were still dancing. I thought that was crazy; I’ve never seen that before.” What Lolla artist would make him star-struck: “Maybe a classic artist like Black Sabbath, but there’s so many bands I can’t wait to see. Number one is Little Dragon. I cannot wait to see little dragon ... I’m absolutely, absolutely in love with her as an artist |
