Think of Skylar Grey’s performance Saturday in Paris Club’s upstairs lounge, Studio Paris,  as a sign of things to come this summer.

Studio Paris — which features a retractable roof and has hosted performances by Jennifer Hudson, Cee Lo Green, Fall Out Boy frontman Patrick Stump and Two Door Cinema Club since opening last July — is planning to book artists regularly during the city’s warmer months, according to Paris Club co-owner R.J. Melman.

Melman didn’t reveal which other artists will take the stage at Studio Paris but did promise performers that will match the club’s energy. He added that it’ll more likely be vocalists than larger bands because they’re easier to accommodate. (Grey, known for her vocals on Diddy-Dirty Money's “Coming Home,” Dr. Dre's “I Need a Doctor” and Lupe Fiasco's “Words I Never Said,” will perform with only a DJ.)

Other than Enclave and, on rare occasion, The Underground, few downtown nightclubs book artists to perform. Does Melman feel it’s a risk considering the hefty price tag that often comes with these sorts of paid performances — especially since Studio Paris doesn’t charge a cover?

“Obviously, it’s a risk spending money to bring someone in,” Melman said. “But we see a lot of upside. … It makes (the atmosphere) more fun. And it’s a lot more fun for us. (Also) we’re always hopeful that we provide the sort of experience that will make (the artist) want to come back. Our goal is not to have them one time.”
