Live television, comedian Tracy Morgan and Charles Barkley was destined to be a disaster.

Before the Miami Heat and New York Knicks tipped off, the TNT NBA crew, including Ernie Johnson, Kenny Turner and Charles Barkley invited comedian and NBC’s “30 Rock star” Tracy Morgan to offer a few comments about Sarah Palin.

Turner asked Morgan to settle a long-standing debate, Sarah Palin or Tina Fey. After a few uncomfortable-looking laughs (Fey is Morgan’s boss after all), Barkley said “he can’t get fired can he?” Then Barkley followed up with this,

“Let me ask you one question, Sarah Palin is good looking isn’t she?,” Charles Barkley said.

Morgan responded with a few lewd, sexual comments referring to the former Alaskan governor Sarah Palin. After the comments immediately went viral on the internet, TNT spokesperson Jeff Pomeroy released an apology.

Something tells me Tracy Morgan won’t be a guest on TNT anytime soon after his comments.

“It’s unfortunate Mr. Morgan showed a lack of judgment on our air with his inappropriate comments,” Pomeroy told USA Today.

Tracy Morgan made inappropriate comments, but I hold TNT and particularly Charles Barkley responsible for this situation.

Morgan is famous for making outrageous, politically incorrect comments. He is a comedian after all.

Charles Barkley is also known for making over-the-top statements. There’s an entire google search dedicated to Charles Barkley quotes after all.

Barkley baited an unpredictable comedian with a sexually suggestive statement and Morgan responded with the expected inappropriate comment. And TNT green-lighted the entire situation.

This is bad moment, but overall TNT still produces the most entertaining NBA coverage. But let’s try to leave the “hot babes” debate out of the conversation next time.
