NFL Pro Israel Idonije talks about Jimmy Fallon and the future of Athlitacomics

After heating things up as a member of the "Hottest Geek Guys of Winter 2014", NFL pro (and former Chicago Bear) Israel Idonije cooled off by taking part in the Chicago Polar Plunge last weekend.

This came on the heels of the announcement that his comic book company Athleta Comics would be going through a slight name change, to Athlitacomics, LLC.

He also released a sneak peek at the cover to his company's first comic, "The Protectors", created by Idonije and written by Ron Marz with art by Bart Sears.

Add to that his preparations for the upcoming Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), and you can imagine how surprised I was when he took some time out of his busy schedule to talk to me about his eventful week!:

Geek To Me: How are things coming along with your comic book "The Protectors"?

Israel Idonije: Things with "The Protectors" are amazing.  Issue #1 is coming out very soon. There is so much going on with Athlitacomics as a young company, I can barely contain my excitement! "The Protectors" is just one of the exciting things we are working on.

Geek To Me: Looking forward to C2E2 this year?

Israel Idonije: Big time! This will be our third year attending comic cons, our second at C2E2!  Every year we want to be better than the previous year.  I’m confident that we will achieve that this year at C2E2.

I can't wait to announce some of the things that are just around the corner!

Geek To Me: How was it taking the polar plunge with Jimmy Fallon this past weekend?

Israel Idonije: The Polar Plunge was fantastic! 3,200 amazing Chicagoans came out and froze together for a great cause: to support the Mayor's reading program, where over 2.1 million books were read; and to support the Special Olympics, where over a million dollars was raised!

The highlight of the day was seeing the hilarious expressions Jimmy made as he came out of the water.

Geek To Me: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Israel Idonije: My power of choice is precognition -- being able to perceive, see, and understand the near and distant future! What an incredible gift!

Of course that would come with its own burdens and challenges, but I am ready!
