(VIDEO: "The Worst Superpower Ever" performed by Angela Webber)
It's time for a geek confession: I have never been to wOOtstock. Nope, I have never attended that wonderfully nerdy answer to LollaPalooza. I mean, I could try and say that I've never been because I've never made it out to a PAX convention, which is usually when wOOtstock takes place, but I think I'd be digging an even deeper hole for myself.
No, I won't do that. What I will do, though, is tell you about a similarly geeky concert and comedy show that will be taking place in the Chicago area very soon, featuring some very talented and funny folks. Here are the details as given to me by Angela Webber of the "nerd-folk" duo The Doubleclicks:
Songwriters from the Internet, YouTube sensation Molly Lewis & geek-gamer sister duo The Doubleclicks, along with Bill Corbett, from MST3k and Rifftrax, and geek-flavored comedian Joseph Scrimshaw, will be in Chicago for a fun, acoustic concert at Evanston SPACE, on Oct. 3 at 8:00 p.m. The ladies will sing about literature, love, games, Mr.T, and the desire to have Stephen Fry’s babies. To learn more and listen, visit thedoubleclicks.com and sweetafton23.com. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $25 for table seating, and are available now on the venue’s website. Evanston SPACE is located at 1245 Chicago Ave, Evanston.
After getting this info, I wanted to get to know the performers a little bit better. So I asked Angela Webber (of The Doubleclicks) and Molly Lewis to make some geek-themed choices and to defend their selections:
Geek To Me: Best Furry Fellas: Hobbits or Ewoks?
Angela Webber: Hobbits all the way! They have an admirable focus on cooking tasty things and eating them, pretty much constantly. They're loyal, lucky, and accidentally clever - those are the best kind of people to have around. Plus, Ewoks creep me out.
Geek To Me: I know a few folks who would agree with you on ewoks. Okay, Best Galactic Government: The Empire or The Federation?
Geek To Me: Best Time Travel Movies: "Back To the Future Series" or "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures/Bogus Journey"?
Molly Lewis: Come on. The obvious answer is Time Bandits.
Geek To Me: I see what you did there. Alright, Best Batmobile: Adam West Batman or Christian Bale Batman?
Angela Webber: The Adam West Batmobile's got awesome red trim that looks like piping on some sort of jogging suit. And that appeals to me.
Geek To Me: Best Pet: Mogwai or Tribbles?
Molly Lewis: This is really the geek equivalent of Dog Person vs Cat Person; the Mogwai are cute and intelligent, but also could hunt and kill you if they wanted, and Tribbles just kind of purr and multiply. I'm a cat person, so it's Tribbles for me.
Geek To Me: Okay, and finally: Screw/Marry/Kill: Han Solo/Indiana Jones/Rick Deckard.
Angela Webber: That's probably the worst collection of men to try to pin down into a marriage. So uh... screw Solo, marry Deckard, and kill Jones - preferably before he accidentally films Crystal Skull.
Geek To Me: Ouch. I guess now would not be the time to say that I liked Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, huh?
