Last night, I attended the VH1 Save The Music Foundation's Songwriters Music Series and caught a performance from Black on Black Rhyme and the headliner Robin Thicke.
I got the opportunity to bend Mr. Thicke's ear and he dropped some gems that some guys can use out here in these streets. Interview below.
Ernest: Let me get this out of the way early. are there any new Chicago artists you're currently digging?
Robin: Oh man, yeah! There's a guy, a violinist who I played with awhile ago...what was his name? *searches for his phone* Lee England, Jr.!!! I want to make sure that he gets that shine.
E: You've done a lot of collaborations with rappers. Not including your own, what is the best rap/R&B collab ever?
R: Oh man...you have to put Mary J. and Method at the top of the list. (Referring to their classic 90's hit "I'll Be There For You/You're All I Need To Get By" )
E: Ok, I have four questions guys out there might want to hear your opinions on. Ready for the lightning round?
R: Born ready.
1: What cocktail do you recommend guys drink?
"Remy Martin, straight up. Boom." (Note: Robin is sponsored by Remy Martin, so take that advice for what you will)
2: What workout tip do you wish you knew before people new to the gym?
"Just be active. 30 minutes, an hour. Whether it be yoga, swimming, basketball, whatever. Just stay active.
3: Album on Earth everyone needs to hear if they haven't already:
"What's going on, Marvin Gaye.
4: If you could share one dating tip for the guys out here, what would that be?"
*says loudly* BREATH. *room erupts with laughter* For real man, you can't come back from (bad) breath. That's the biggest one for SURE.
Thanks to Mr. Thicke for his time. The event was a blast.
