The Wachowski siblings are returning this week to Chicago – where they filmed part of their delayed movie “Jupiter Ascending” last summer -- to film part of their new Netflix sci-drama “Sense8.”
Chicago film office director Rich Moskal said “Sense8” is scheduled to begin shooting in Chicago Wednesday and will wrap in the city around August 8. Shooting will take place both on location and at Cinespace Film Studios.
“The series follows eight characters around the world who, in the aftermath of a tragic death, find themselves linked to each other mentally and emotionally,” “Sense8” co-showrunner J. Michael Straczynski told Deadline. “They can not only see and talk to each other as though they were in the same place, they have access to each other’s deepest secrets. Not only must they figure out what happened and why and what it means for the future of humanity, they must do so while being hunted by an organization out to capture, kill or vivisect them.”
Atmosphere Casting is currently looking for stand-ins for “Sense8” cast members, including Chicago native Daryl Hannah (“Kill Bill”), Naveen Andrews (“Lost”), Freema Agyeman (“Doctor Who”) and Brian J. Smith (“Stargate Universe”), and extras to play SWAT, military, police, prison inmates, nurses, doctors and gang members. Atmosphere expects “several large crowd scenes” during filming.
Lana and Andy Wachowski – best known for “The Matrix” trilogy – are headquartered in Andersonville.
The 10-episode “Sense8” began filming in San Francisco last month and will also shoot in Mexico City, London and Berlin, among other places. The show is scheduled to debut in 2015.
