Comedy fans may recognize the voice they hear on the FlyLo FM radio station in the new “Grand Theft Auto V” video game. It’s that of Chicago comedian Hannibal Buress, who co-stars on Cartoon Network’s “The Eric Andre Show” and the new Nike and Foot Locker commercial featuring the Oklahoma City Thunder’s Kevin Durant.
“I met (producer and rapper) Flying Lotus at ‘The Eric Andre Show Live’ that we did at Bottom Lounge in Chicago last year for Pitchfork (Music Festival),” Buress said by email Saturday. “He's a big comedy fan. He told me that he had a station on ‘GTA V’ and he wanted me to do something on it. We decided it would be sort of a ‘man on the street’ type thing.”
The radio station, one of 17 available in “Grand Theft Auto V,” features music by Tyler the Creator, Outkast, Clams Casino and Hudson Mohawke, among others. The game passed $1 billion in sales in three days last week, according to creator Take-Two Interactive, making it the fastest-selling video game of all time.
“I'm excited to have a small part in the game,” Buress said. “It's an amazing game and I love video games, so it's cool to play it and have my voice come up.”
Also featured in the game is singer B.J. the Chicago Kid. His song with Freddie Gibbs and Problem, "Smoke & Ride," can be heard on the Radio Los Santos station.
