Hasana
2937 N Clark St. 773-570-0796

Downwind of a New York-style deli and waffle shop on Clark Street, you’ll find Hasana, a boutique with an uncommon mission. Opened last summer in Lakeview, Hasana is run by Jessica George and the Aparecio Foundation, the non-profit she started in 2009. The foundation focuses on young women’s education, and all proceeds from sales benefit the foundation and its goals. “I wanted to couple my love for fashion and passion for helping women,” she said. Based on the high-end goods and stylish decor, you might not guess the store’s charitable approach. Gilded walls, an old-timey record player and tons of unique clothing and accessories fill the boutique with whimsy and sophistication.

The moment I stepped into this dress (Cettina, $125), I knew I had found my look. The color, fabric and long, billowy sleeves gave me an elegant ensemble perfect for a dinner party or an evening cocktail hour. The pop of blue in this necklace (Dorus Mhor, $130) broke up my monotone gold get-up and this rockstar cuff (Ali’s Collection, $75) added texture and interest to the outfit. (Happy coincidence: Hasana carries designers from around the country, but all three of these items happen to be made by Chicago designers.) I added my own tights and boots, but in warmer weather, this dress could look just as sharp with bare legs and patent pumps.

Where to wear it: Date night or dinner with friends.

Tips:
-If you’re stuck in a style rut, look for dresses with a silhouette you may not have tried before.
-Break up blocks of color with quirky accessories.
