Windy City Smokeout stands out from other street festivals – and not just because it features impecably clean Porta-Potties. The three day festival takes place July 11-13 at the intersection of Grand Avenue and the Chicago River and is the only major street fest held downtown featuring well-known country music acts and BBQ restaurants.
The headliners aren't one-hit wonders from the 80s and 90s like at many other street fests. This year's Smokeout will include performances by Brett Eldredge, Randy Rogers Band and Eli Young Band. And there are no generic food stands with signs that look like they came from a carnival. Smokeout will feature BBQ from Bub City, Lillie's Q, Chicago Q, Smoque and chef Myron Mixon ("BBQ Pitmasters").
For the record, I don’t mind one hit wonders or generic food stands. "Take on Me" by A-ha is my jam. I’m also the same guy who lists Taco Bell as one of his favorite restaurants. I’m just pointing out the differences, that's all.
