Chicago may have missed out on “The Dark Knight Rises” – which opted to film in Pittsburgh rather than in Chicago like the first two Batman films did – but we did get Miley Cyrus’ high school romance film “LOL.”
In your face, Steel City!
Cyrus plays a student at the fictional Wrigleyville High School in the film and reveals in the trailer “My name is Lola, but everyone calls me Lol.” Lol finds out her boyfriend is cheating on her with her high school rival, played by 25-year-old Ashley Greene, and is devastated because we all know how important high school relationships are in the grand scheme of things.
Lol ends up falling for a guy friend who has the same haircut as just about every other dude in the film and then tells him “You really are amazing,” to which he poetically replies, “No, you’re amazing.”
The Chicago-based film was shot in both Chicago and Detroit in the summer of 2010. If you’re looking for signs of Chicago in the trailer, there's an Edwardo's Natural Pizza ad on a building and possibly a scene at The Metro and on the L.
(Cyrus was spotted dining with co-stars Demi Moore and Jay Hernandez at Table Fifty-Two during a night off from filming in September. Moore was also spotted at Cuvee and Hydrate in Boystown.)
Cyrus’ previous film, 2010’s “The Last Song,” made $89 million at the worldwide box office. Her film before that, 2009’s “Hannah Montana The Movie,” made $155 million at the worldwide box office. “LOL” does not have an official release date.
