In any revival of "Gypsy," the most interesting moment is the announcement of who is playing Rose.
Chicago Shakespeare Theater is set to announce the star of its upcoming production, directed by Gary Griffin: Louise Pitre, the original star of "Mamma Mia" on Broadway.
The Canadian-born performer recently has been on the symphony pops circuit, appearing alongside major orchestras, especially in Canada. She's also known for playing Fantine in "Les Miserables."
Pitre also has been mentioned in connection with the upcoming Sting musical, "The Last Ship," which is eying a Chicago tryout.
"Gypsy" plays Feb. 6 through March 23 on Chicago's Navy Pier. The rest of the cast has yet to be finalized.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
