A teenage boy was charged in connection to a strongarm robbery of a young couple at a downtown Red Line subway station near the Chicago Theatre, Chicago police said.
The 15-year-old boy was arrested at about 2 p.m. Monday after an investigation that had detectives scouring CTA surveillance video for the identity of the robber in the June 9 attack, police said.
The teen, whose identity was withheld because of his age, was later charged as a juvenile with felony robbery and aggravated battery.
Police said the boy was one of several youth aboard a CTA Red Line train approaching the Lake Street stop at about 10:20 p.m.
As the train came to a stop, a member of the group took the young woman's Apple iPhone, prompting her husband to intercede. The group, led by the 15-year-old, began to beat the man before fleeing.
Central Area detectives are continuing to search for others who participated in the attack, police said.
