Team Starkid, the hugely popular performance company known for its internet-based musical parodies and for its popular live tours, is to produce a new prime-time show at Chicago's Second City.
The company, which originated at the University of Michigan but is headquarted now in Chicago, will produce a new sketch-comedy show, titled "Airport for Birds (and Other Great Ideas)" in the Second City's Up Comedy Club, 230 W. North Ave., beginning Jan. 27 under the direction of Corey Lubowich, with musical direction by Nick Gage. The show is slated to introduce original sketch fare, along with short-form video material and music.
Starkid is known (among other things) for its "A Very Potter Musical," its affiliation with Darren Criss of "Glee" and its huge, youthful fan base (including a Twitter following of 120,000; 275,000 YouTube subscribers and 200,000 Facebook fans). This will be the company's first, regularly scheduled live show, although it claims 140 million views of its online parodies.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
