South Side man charged with fleeing police and causing crash

A South Side man has been charged with causing a traffic accident while fleeing police that left four pedestrians and the driver of another car injured on the South Side.

James D. Pugh, 48, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated fleeing, driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, possession of cannabis, property damage and various traffic citations.

Police said Pugh led police on a chase that ended about 8:40 p.m. Tuesday at 103rd Street and Michigan Avenue when he hit a another car that careened into a bus stop where four people were standing.

All four were taken to hospitals. Police said their injuries were not life-threatening. The driver of the car Pugh hit also was taken to a hospital, police said.

Pugh, of the 1400 block of West 115th Street, is due in court today.
