Shootings in Bronzeville, Brainerd neighborhoods wound 3

A man was critically injured when someone opened fire in a barber shop in one of two South Side shootings early this morning, police said.

The shooting at the barber shop happened about 2:45 a.m. in the 9000 block of South Ashland Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.

A male assailant entered the barber shop and shot a 34-year-old man multiple times in the abdomen, legs and groin, according to police. The man was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County and listed in grave condition.

Area South detectives are investigating the shooting, which happened in the Brainerd neighborhood.

In the Bronzeville neighborhood, two men were shot about 3:30 a.m. following a dispute at a party, police said.

The two left the party in a vehicle, and when their vehicle stopped at a stop sign in the 5000 block of South Indiana Avenue, someone with a gun stepped out of a nearby vehicle and shot both of them, according to police.

One of the men, who is 28, was struck in the leg, police said. The other man, 27, sustained a graze wound to the hip area.

The driver of their vehicle drove to Mercy Hospital, where both men were treated. The 27-year-old man was listed in good condition, police said. The condition of the other man was not immediately released, but police said it had stabilized.
