The premise of ABC's “Mind Games” can be a little confusing.
The Chicago-filmed drama stars Christian Slater (“True Romance”) and Steve Zahn (“Joy Ride”) and revolves around two brothers who are in the problem solving business. According to ABC’s website, they use “a little bit of science, a dash of con-artistry, plus a smattering of Jedi mind tricks … to influence any life-altering situation, thereby making their clients' dreams come true and their nightmares go away.”
Still not sure exactly what the show is about? That's what the trailer is for.
The two minute video below sheds some light on the type of problems they will solve and how they’ll solve them, including trying to convince a young woman in a cult to return home. Their solution? Have one brother pretend to kidnap her and have the other save her, earn her trust and talk her into going home (if you think that’s a stretch, you should see how they get a kid an organ transplant in this video.) The trailer ends with the brothers and their team celebrating and Slater telling Zahn “You amaze me” before giving him a hug.
Ugh. I’m tired of every trailer these days ending on a sappy note. Not everything needs to feel like a Nicholas Sparks movie. Whenever a slow song comes on toward the end of a trailer now, that means the heart-warming montage is coming (you know, the one with the shots of people smiling, hugging, dancing and embracing whatever the moral of the story is). It also likely means one of the characters is going to say something most people would only say when they’re drunk. Case in point: “You amaze me.”
The good news is this is just a trailer. The audience will obviously get a better sense of the show when it premieres Feb. 25. And best of all, Hollywood character actor Luis Guzman has a reoccurring role on the show. Who doesn't like Luis Guzman?
