Commuters on Metra's Burlington Northern Sante Fe line were delayed at least an hour and a half this morning when doors on their train failed to close and they were transferred to another train, officials said.
Train 1252, scheduled to arrive Chicago at 8:34 a.m., was stopped at the Naperville station when at least several of its doors failed to close, Metra spokesman Tom Miller said.
Another train arrived at the station to pick up the passengers shortly after 9 a.m., he said. Metra estimated the delay at 85 minutes.
Metra officials today said it was not the same equipment as an incident last week, when a train operated with one door open. That incident was believed connected to icing conditions.
Today the problem was a broken or frayed cable that controlled a series of doors, with the result being more than one door on the train malfunctioned.
