A 22-year-old man who had been part of a fight that started in a Broadview bar was sentenced today to 105 years in prison in the shooting death of one man and the injury of another outside the bar in 2009, prosecutors said in a news release.
Taurean Decatur, of Maywood, was part of a group of people who got into a fight that started inside the bar in the 1700 block of West Roosevelt Road in Broadview about 1 a.m. Oct. 10, 2009. Killed was Maurice Orange, 32, of Woodridge, authorities said.
The fight spilled into the bar’s parking lot, and after Decatur was ejected from the bar, he went to his car briefly and went back to the parking lot with a gun in his waistband, prosecutors said.
Decatur took the gun out and fired three shots, one missing its target, the second hitting Orange and the third hitting another man in the leg, authorities said.
A murder warrant was issued for Decatur on Oct. 21, 2009, and he was arrested on Feb. 1, 2010, in connection with the slaying, according to court records.
Decatur, of the 1700 block of South 4th Avenue in Maywood, was sentenced by Maywood Branch Court Judge Noreen Love.
