Authorities are looking for three men in connection with the home invasion shooting last nightÖ May 4 of a 26-year-old man in far north suburban Wauconda.
Investigators are searching for three men, all in their mid-20s, according to Wauconda Police Chief Patrick Yost.
The men, who police believe were involved in the shooting of the man while a woman and her three children hid in the apartment’s bathroom, are believed to be Hispanic and of average height and stature, according to Yost.
Yost said that about 8:30 p.m. on SundayÖ May 4, one of the children answered a knock at the door of a second-floor apartment in a building on Main Street in Wauconda.
“They entered the apartment, there was an argument between those males and the boyfriend of the woman who rents the apartment,” Yost said.
Authorities are not releasing the names of the shooting victim or the woman renting the apartment due to the ongoing nature of the investigation, he said. The children are 14, 10 and 7, he said.
“At some point in this argument, one of the intruders shot the victim in the chest one time,” Yost said.
Yost said all three men fled in a dark-colored car, according to a neighbor. He said several 911 calls came in, including one from the 35-year-old woman who rents the apartment.
The shooting victim is in good condition at a nearby hospital, Yost said, but authorities will not release the exact location because the three suspects are still “at large.”
Authorities said the victim still is sedated and unable to speak to them, but say he is in good condition. Yost said the bullet went through the man’s chest but did not hit any vital organs.
Authorities say they are unable to say exactly where the victim is from because there is more than one address linked to his driver’s license.
Yost said police could not say whether the woman was involved or what the relationship was among the men.
“We don’t know for sure if they all knew each other,” Yost said. “But based on the argument, and fact they were only arguing with the boyfriend, it would seem it would be a fair statement they at least could have known each other. There is nothing we discovered that would suggest this could be random. It looks more purposeful.”
Investigators continue to interview those close to the victim as well as the mother of the children, who Yost said is the victim’s girlfriend.
They also will review security camera footage in the area, he said.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
