Morton Grove police are awaiting the results of a report from the Office of the State Fire Marshal before determining the cause of a weekend garage fire that left an 88-year-old man dead.
An autopsy of Domingo Morin, of the 7300 block of Arcadia Street, was inconclusive, officials with the Cook County medical examiner’s office said Sunday. The medical examiner’s office also is waiting on the report from investigators.
Morton Grove police said they cannot conclusively establish the cause of the Saturday fire or eliminate the possibility of foul play until the report is issued.
“We haven’t ruled anything out,” Cmdr. Mike Weitzel said. “We’re investigating any possibility.”
Arson investigators from the Morton Grove Fire Department are working with the Office of the State Fire Marshal. Investigators remained on the scene for much of day Saturday, Weitzel added.
First responders arrived to the house on Arcadia Street after a neighbor called to report the fire around 10:50 a.m. on Saturday, Weitzel said.
Firefighters discovered Morin’s body after they extinguished the flames. He was pronounced dead on the scene at 11:18 a.m., authorities said.
