An 11-month-old girl was thrown from an SUV when a semi struck the vehicle early this morning in the Near North neighborhood, authorities said.
The driver of a semi was traveling north on Dearborn Street and apparently ran a red light, hitting the SUV as it headed east on Ohio Street, police said.
The baby, who was being held in the back seat of the SUV by a passenger, was ejected. She was taken to Lurie Children's Hospital, where her condition was stabilized, police said.
Police have issued citations to the drivers of both vehicles.
The truck driver, David Lecher, 39, of the 400 block of Henson Road in Villa Grove, was cited for failure to stop at a red light.
Police cited the SUV driver, Cresencio Acuna, 31, of the 2000 block of West 18th Place, for not having a valid driver’s license and for failing to restrain a childr under the age of 4.
