The Off-Broadway hit "Freud's Last Session" is headed to Chicago this spring with its original New York cast attached.
Mark St. Germain's play, which imagines a meeting between Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis wherein the two great thinkers spar over love, death, God, sex and other weighty matters, will begin preview performances at the Mercury Theatre, 3745 N. Southport Ave., on March 21 and open March 28. The original New York producing team is behind the commercial engagement.
"Freud's Last Session" opened on New York's Upper West Side in July, 2010, and continues to run; it proved especially popular with psychoanalysts. Whether Lewis and Freud ever actually met in real life is open to debate.
As in New York, Mark H. Dold plays Lewis and Martin Rayner plays Freud. Tyler Marchant directs. For more information, call 773-325-1700 or visit freudslastsession.com.
