Five people, including three on parole, have been charged with home invasion and armed robbery after they showed up at a house party overnight and robbed people at gunpoint in unincorporated Will County, police said.
Investigators were called to a home on the 100 block of South Park Road in unincorporated Joliet Township at about 3:30 a.m., according to a press release issued by Will County Sheriff's police.
At the time, a small party was going on when four men entered the home wearing dark clothing, police said. Shortly after going inside, the men used either scarves or masks to cover their faces and two of them pulled out guns, police said. They then began to rob the guests of wallets, cell phones and money, police said.
After the robberies, the men fled on foot. No one was injured.
Sheriff’s deputies determined that the four robbers were connected to a vehicle in the area stopped by the police that was being driven by Darius Strong, who is on parole, police said.
Investigators determined that the car being driven by Strong did not belong to him and police then contacted the owner, who said Strong did not have permission to use the vehicle, police said.
At about the time that police contacted the owner they determined that three people had returned to the vehicle owner's home and the owner of vehicle claimed not to know who they were, police said.
Police then went to the vehicle owner's home on the 100 block of South East Circle Drive, Joliet Township. As police arrived there, the front door opened and a person yelled out a warning to others in the home that the police had arrived, according to the statement.
The person who opened the door then tried to force the door closed but officers prevented him from doing so. Three people then tried to flee the residence but all were apprehended by sheriff’s police and Joliet police officials. While searching that home, investigators found what they believed to be the two weapons used during the robbery on South Park Road. Police also found items believed to have been taken from the victims.
The sheriff’s office is also investigating whether the subjects arrested today are responsible for an armed robbery on March 12, 2013 at Mac’s Tap, located at 607 Algonquin, Joliet Township, where four men entered the tavern with masked faces and weapons. The people made off with proceeds from the tavern and patrons.
The following have been charged with home invasion and armed robbery: Rodney G. Parks, 22, of the 1500 block of Fairmount Avenue, Joliet; Darius Strong, 25, of the 7100 block of South Yates Avenue, Chicago; Deathray Anderson, 22, of the 100 block of Richardson Avenue, Joliet; Elijah Watson, 17, of the 100 block of Wallace Street, Joliet; and Mitchell M. Thompson, 18, of the 1600 block of 5th Avenue, Joliet.
Parks, Strong and Anderson are currently on parole, according to Will County officials.
