Hold onto your orange Crocs. Eataly is closed today. And apparently Chicago is at fault because it provided such a warm welcome.
According to a posting on Eataly's blog, the store will be closed today "in order to preserve our standards of quality and service." On Eataly's Twitter feed, it summed it up in one word: "Refueling."
In the posting, Eataly staff thanked Chicago and offered some stats for its opening week.
- More than 120,000 people passed through the doors.
- 80,000 people dined there.
- More than 30,000 purchased food to go.
Eataly cites its manifesto, a list of 10 rules, for the decision.
"We have decided to close the store on Monday, December 9th, in order to preserve our standards of quality and service. We want to pay back your love and passion for Eataly Chicago by providing you the best food and the best service," the website explains.
Caffe Lavazza reopens at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
