Cyndi Lauper to headline for Broadway in Chicago

Broadway in Chicago's annual concert hyping its upcoming shows has a headliner this year of note: Cyndi Lauper.

The singer and composer will be offering audiences an early look at her work for the upcoming musical "Kinky Boots," which is trying out in Chicago this fall.

Lauper's supporting acts at the Aug. 6 event (held this year in Millennium Park) will be Cathy Rigby (still doing "Peter Pan") and the puppet horse "Joey," the star of the National Theatre of Great Britain's touring production of "War Horse." Joey comes direct from his recent smash engagement celebrating the Queen of England's diamond jubilee.

Cast members from other touring productions also will appear. The event, hosted by Janet Davies, is free.
