The entire Goodman Theatre cast of David Henry Hwang's “Chinglish” will reprise their roles on Broadway this fall. With one exception.
The central role of Daniel, played at the Goodman by James Waterston, will now be played by Gary Wilmes. The replacement of Waterston was expected. More surprising is the decision to go with a well-respected actor (who appeared in the Elevator Repair Service production of “Gatz” and has several Chicago credits) rather than a ticket-selling star.
Lead producer Jeffrey Richards has apparently decided that this production of Hwang's new play, a big hit in Chicago, can thrive on its own. “Chinglish” will open at the Longacre Theatre on Broadway on Oct. 27.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
