A man accused of taking a phone and computer from a University of Illinois at Chicago dorm room where a teenager was sleeping was ordered held Saturday on $80,000 bail.
Police began investigating in November after a 19-year-old reported waking up to find his iPhone and laptop missing from a room in the Commons South dorm at 700 S. Halsted St.
Police said security footage showed Gregory Q. Austin, 30, entering and leaving the building around the time the crime took place on Nov. 21. They also tracked the stolen phone to a GameStop store, where Austin allegedly sold the device and provided the clerk with his identification.
Austin, of the 1300 block of West Washburne Avenue on the Near West Side, admitted burglarizing the room to UIC police, according to his arrest report.
Austin appeared before Cook County Circuit Judge Laura Marie Sullivan in bond court Saturday on a single count of felony residential burglary. He's due back in court Friday.
