For anyone still holding out hope that Charlie Trotter might eventually reopen his namesake restaurant in its original space, think again.
The connected town houses at 814 and 816 W. Armitage Ave. — which were home to Trotter’s restaurant in one building and studio kitchen and offices in the other — are being listed together for $3.8 million by Coldwell Banker, the brokerage announced Wednesday. Suzanne Gignilliat, the listing agent along with Bruce Heller, said the two properties are being marketed together, “but they could be sold separately.”
She also said that the chef/owner has left “over a million dollars of kitchen equipment” in the two buildings, but they don’t necessarily have to house a restaurant in their combined 4,800 or so square feet (or 8,800 if you count the wine cellar and other usable basement space, she said).
“It could be retail,” Gignilliat said. “It could be live/work space. And it could be two single-family homes or one big single family home.”
Homaro Cantu, a former Trotter’s chef now overseeing the high-end restaurants Moto and iNG, had been kicking the proverbial tires on the space, but a deal never came together. “It was too expensive for my group,” he said Wednesday.
Charlie Trotter’s closed at the end of last August after a 25-year rein as one of the country’s finest restaurants. Gignilliat said the chef has been in discussions with the brokerage over the past couple of months.
“I think he feels it’s time for him to move on to a new phase of his life,” she said.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
