A 20-year-old Bridgeview man accused of driving a car over his girlfriend during an argument Thursday afternoon on the Southwest Side appeared in court today to face charges.
Taylor Ziyad, of the 9300 block of South Thomas Avenue, was charged with felony aggravated domestic battery and failure to report an accident, both of which are felonies, police said.
He was also cited for driving on a suspended license, negligent driving, failure to notify authorities of a damaged or unattended vehicle, no registration, and no insurance, police said.
Ziyad was behind the wheel of a 2001 Volkswagen Passat Thursday afternoon when he ran over his 23-year-old girlfriend in the 6400 block of South New England Avenue, police said.
According to prosecutors, the woman was face-down, unconscious and bleeding from the mouth when she was found. She is in guarded condition, prosecutors said, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
Several witnesses saw the incident, which started when the two were arguing while she was outside of the car and he was behind the wheel, according to a police report.
At some point, she was on the hood of the car but slipped and fell on the ground and he "continued to move the vehicle forward," running over her legs and back and dragging her for a short distance, according to the report.
He drove away, prosecutors said, but police found and arrested him about 5:30 p.m.
Bail for Ziyad was set in Cook County Criminal Court today at $250,000. He’s next expected to appear in court on Thursday.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
