A boy was injured when he hit a tree while sledding down a large hill at a park in northwest suburban Cary Friday afternoon, fire officials said.
The child was airlifted to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge but he did not suffer any life-threatening injuries, said Cary Fire Protection District Asst. Chief Ken Destree.
The initial call was for a boy who was unconscious, which prompted a call for the helicopter, but he was conscious when they got to the scene, said Destree.
The boy was sledding down a hill at Lions Park, 1200 Silver Lake Rd., about 3:15 p.m. when he hit a tree, Destree said.
"We're not sure how it happened," Destree said.
The entrance to Lions Park was closed to allow the helicopter access but the park was not closed after the "unfortunate" accident, Destree said.Copyright © 2015, RedEye
