There’s a local angle in “Bad Girls Club: Chicago” that goes beyond the Oxygen reality show’s location.
Cast member and model Alex Rice is the daughter of former University of Notre Dame quarterback Tony Rice, who lead the Fighting Irish to the 1988 national championship. Tony currently works at Hub International insurance brokerage in Chicago, according to his LinkedIn profile.
Alex -- who was raised in South Bend -- isn’t secretive about her father’s past. She revealed in the first episode of “Bad Girls Club: Chicago” (which premieres May 13) “My dad played for Notre Dame, so my parents’ divorce was widely, widely public.” But in the show’s trailer, Alex admitted that being the daughter of a football player took somewhat of a toll on her. “I’m tired of living in my father’s shadow,” Alex said. “I am my own person.” Her bio on oxygen.com states Alex “credits her trust issues, especially with women, to her rocky relationship with her father, and hopes this opportunity will allow her to build more confidence in people.”
“Bad Girls Club: Chicago” features seven young women living under one house in Highland Park hoping to better themselves. The “Bad Girls Club” franchise – now in its 12th season -- has become known for its shouting matches and fist fights. Alex, not one for skirmishes, was told the show would get back to focusing on self improvement, which is why she agreed to take part. Still, it appears from the trailer that there is plenty of drama along the way.
How did Tony feel about Alex’s decision to appear on “Bad Girls Club”?
“My father was very supportive of what I want to do with my life,” said Alex Thursday over the phone. “He said ‘If this is what you want to do, give it your all.’ There are things I have to get off my chest that he’s not ready for. I haven’t been given the opportunity to explain everything that happened in the house and why I went into the house. I couldn’t tell you how he’s going to react.”
The show arranged for select family members to visit the house one weekend during the season. Alex said her mother and grandmother were the family members who visited her.
