Tillman cornered the market on bad

If Charles Tillman had been playing for a job, he’d have been on the street by halftime of the Bears’ practice game against the Giants on Friday night.

Twice Tillman was flagged for pass interference, once on a third-and-long, the other in the end zone that set up a Giants touchdown one play later.

Oh, and don’t forget the way Ramses Barden pantsed Tillman on a third-and-1 slant for a score one play after Victor Cruz beat Tillman for 10 yards on second-and-11.

That was the player many think is the best cornerback in Bears history?

The Super Bowl champions seemed anxious to go after Tillman, and Eli Manning certainly had the time to do it, what with the Bears’ limp pass rush. As bad as the Bears starting offense looked both on the ground and in the air, the inability of the defense to pressure Manning and get off the field on third down was a killer.

Too often, the Bears starting defense slow and tentative, not to mention ineffective up front aside from Julius Peppers.

Manning hit on 17 of 21 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown in the first half, and the first half was all he needed, especially against Tillman. That was an elite quarterback taking apart the guy who’s supposed to be the most reliable player in the Bears secondary.

Good thing this didn’t count, and maybe it doesn’t portend doom for the regular season, but I could use more from a Super Bowl contender.

Jay Cutler hit Brandon Marshall for a touchdown and finished the practice game against the Giants upright. So much for the first-string offense’s highlights.

I mean, the Bears starters couldn’t even get in the end zone against the Giants’ backups to start the third quarter. Come on.

Peppers destroyed an end-around for a 13-yard loss back to the Giants’ 2. How do you not block Julius Peppers?

I think J’Marcus Webb won the left tackle job when Osi Umenyiora gave Chris Williams windburn.

Lovie Smith told WBBM-AM 780 before the game that safety was not one of his concerns. On the Giants’ second series, new starting safety Craig Steltz missed some plays and then drew a personal foul penalty after a 28-yard reception out of the backfield. Yes. Well. At least the Bears held the Giants to a field goal in the red zone.

Two Bears safeties are hurt, two question marks are starting, more question marks are trying out. Is this any way to run a Super Bowl contender?

The Bears’ first two-minute drill in the first half took 14 seconds before going three-and-out. Might need some work.

Same goes for the ensuing punt that came back immediately into Ryan Quigley’s gut.

Same goes for the Bears’ second two-minute drill at the end of the first half that resulted in Cutler desperately sneaking off his 1-yard line. Where are the Redskins when you need them?

I have to believe Lorenzo Booker has won some kind of job with the last two weeks of kick returns.

Quick, someone tell the Bears it’s OK to practice tackling in games.

Rejoice! Adele's new album is rumored to arrive this fall

There's a fire starting in my heart and it's making me realize it's been kind of a while since Adele released an album. Her last full-length "21" dropped in 2011 and I barely remember that year it feels so long ago. But now, there's some good news to fill our recently Adele-less lives and it's...

Let's talk about this new Justin Bieber song 'What Do You Mean?'

Don't get me wrong, Justin Bieber is still really embarrassing. He's the young pop star who recently said something only a 21-year-old would say, "Now being 21, and going through some hardships, I think you can hear that in my vocals." This is a guy who, last year at a charity gala benefiting AIDS...
