A 51-year-old man died early this morning after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in the Logan Square neighborhood on the Northwest Side, authorities said.
The man's name was not being released pending confirmation that his family has been notified, He was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
About 12:05 a.m., the man was struck by a vehicle in the 3000 block of North Milwaukee Avenue, said Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada.
A witness told police the man was walking east, trying to cross Milwaukee at Ridgeway Avenue, when an SUV heading south hit him, Police News Affairs Officer Joshua Purkiss. The victim was in a crosswalk when he was struck.
News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said that the vehicle was a black Chevrolet Suburban with blue lights.
